Learning journal — Week 7 takeaways

This is the third week of the second phase “Build Something from scratch” 🔨 at the Nearsoft Academy. It has been a really interesting and challenging week.

Through this week, the team and I have been working on the project. We have been mostly analyzing how to code functions and requirements, coding them and fixing some things 😅.

The most interesting takeouts of this week, talking about knowledge 📖, is the use of node modules to generate and read QR’s. I dove into several QR modules trying to see the pros and cons of each. Then I talk to my team and we discussed 💬 and decided on the ones we consider the best ones. Also, I learned a little bit about Jest and how the projects are done in the Labs of Nearsoft and the stages of a project there 🖥.

Oh, and I also learn more commands of git and the difference between the git revert and git reset ‼️, that consists of git revert, undo the changes and then creates a new commit, and reset alter the history 📃 of commits. I had to used revert this week because the project had some troubles.

One of the major takeouts is that when you are using a language weakly typed or untyped you should be careful of what you are receiving and comparing. Let me explain, at some point this week I thought I was comparing numbers num < num2 and adding some value, num += x, but I wasn’t!!!!

What I was doing was comparing strings and adding more characters to the string so when comparing them, it was even smaller, and guess what, it provoked an infinite loop.

The last week I write about my interest in working a little in the front-end to learn about React. This week I had the opportunity, to try the QR scanner and the generator, I learned a little about React, and the hooks. I had to research (especially about Hooks) and also my team explained to me, not an expert, but not so lost anymore 😁👍🏽.

Although, we had to adapt because one member of the team got sick 🤒, everything is going well.I consider we worked a lot and at a very good pace 👍🏽, we even manage to start working on some things for the next sprint👀.

Let’s see how this week and phase end, it has been a blast working with the team and on such a challenging project 🔨.
